An existing art-deco bungalow that had been renovated many times with Matthew and Lauren wanting to expand for their growing family. The first step in the process was to strip it back to it’s original condition, and remodel it with period-appropriate detail. To respect the existing building’s roof line and volume, the extension is imagined as a second building, modern and open but in dialogue with the existing cottage. A low section containing the ‘services’ has been added between the two pavilions, a bridge to connect the old and new.
