The brief sought a design that was “unmistakably Marrickville”. Our concept was inspired by the architecture of Marrickville. The residential streets are lined by federation homes with roofs dominated by the terracotta tile. The terracotta tile is the material core of the design and reflects the diverse cultures that have been expressed through reinterpretation of the federation home through bright facade colours and unique planting. We extend this concept to celebrate Marrickville’s long tradition of embracing immigrants and encouraging cultural expression within Anglo-Australian society.
